The Northern SOCIETY
MEMBERSHIP
The Cambridge Northern Society is proud to bring together people connected to the North of England – whether they are thinking of applying to Cambridge, currently studying here, or looking back on their time at the University.
We offer three types of membership:
Prospective Students, Current Students, and Alumni. Each group is welcome and valued – and together, we make up the Northern community at Cambridge.
Student Membership
This is the heart of our Society. If you are currently studying at Cambridge and have links to the North, we would love you to become a member.
As a current student member, you will:
- Be invited to all Society events – from pub nights to formals and speaker panels
- Have voting rights and the ability to stand for committee roles
- Join our termly group chats and meet Northern students across Colleges and subjects
- Help shape the Society’s outreach and cultural activities
- Be part of a welcoming and supportive community that feels like home
Membership is free, and you can join at any time.
Alumni Membership
Our Northern community does not end at graduation. Alumni members are always welcome and remain part of the Society’s story.
As an alumni member, you can:
- Attend our alumni formals and annual events
- Stay connected through our termly newsletter
- Contribute to our outreach and mentoring schemes
- Share your story to inspire the next generation of Northern students
If you were once part of the Northern Society, we would love to have you join our Northern alumni network.
Prospective Membership
Are you thinking of applying to Cambridge? Or already applying from a school or college in the North?
We invite you to join our Prospective Members Network, designed to support you during the application process. This includes:
- Access to our student-written resource base
- Invitations to occasional online Q&A sessions with current Northern students
- The chance to ask questions via our email or anonymous form
- A friendly introduction to Cambridge life, without pressure or jargon
This membership is entirely free and open to anyone from the North of England who is interested in studying at Cambridge.
