Northern Alumni Committee
Alumni Representative
The Alumni Representative is a voluntary governance role within The Northern Society, serving on the Northern Alumni Committee. The role exists to support continuity between current students and alumni, and to contribute to the long-term development of the Society’s alumni network.
Alumni Representatives act as a point of connection between graduates and the wider Society, helping to ensure that alumni perspectives, experience, and institutional memory inform ongoing activity where appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Alumni Representatives may contribute in the following ways:
- Supporting communication between alumni members and the Society
- Assisting with the development of the alumni network, including community building and engagement
- Contributing to outreach, mentoring, or access related initiatives where appropriate
- Representing alumni interests within the wider governance structure of the Society
- Supporting alumni events or activities as the network develops
The scope of involvement is flexible and proportionate, recognising that alumni members will have varying professional and personal commitments.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Have previously been a member of The Northern Society during their studies
- Have successfully applied for Alumni Membership
- Be willing to act in a representative capacity aligned with the values and aims of the Society
There is no requirement to have held a previous committee role.
Time Commitment
The role carries no fixed weekly commitment. Engagement is light touch and primarily strategic or advisory, with optional involvement in specific initiatives or events as they arise.

This form is for alumni members of The Northern Society who wish to be considered for the voluntary role of Alumni Representative.
Applications are reviewed by the Extended Committee in liaison with the Executive Committee.

Communication between the Alumni Division and the wider Northern Society is facilitated through structured liaison with the Extended Committee and the Executive Committee. This bridged communication ensures continuity and alignment while maintaining clear separation between alumni activity and the Society’s student governance.
Participation in the Alumni Division does not confer any formal status within the University of Cambridge, nor does it imply endorsement by the University or its institutions.
